Anyone try slicehost yet?
Me and a partner were thinking of giving it a go, how is it?

20 bucks / month for a vps sounds pretty good!

I’ve heard some commentary on how VPS are poor for web services such as Ajax, rails and the bit.

How is the performance?
What size is your slice?

Ps nice wallpaper, used as beryl end-caps :}

...since sliced bread?

@noskill,

Is your site, in signature above, on slicehost? It responds very fast for me.

I’m not seeing how VPS as technology approach can be poor for web-services/AJAX. It’s all up to how you configure it grin

Well, right now I have smallest one, 256 MB. And I have Apache 2, PHP5 + mySQL running under light load plus some services running in background and Ruby scripts invoked via cron. I must say that’s too much for a 256 slice (in terms of RAM usage). It was a bit tricky to configure everything in the beginning like number of Apache processes started and so on, but after that was done everything works like a charm.

Yes it is grin

If anyone cares clicking on my affiliate link for sign-up, here it is: Slicehost sign-up with my affiliate link. Don’t let affiliate link trick you—I’m giving good feedback to these guys not because of that (I don’t even know exactly what is going to happen when someone clicks on that link). I’m just super-happy customer, like everyone who uses Slicehost. Simply go to their forum, Wiki or IRC and you see that I’m not alone grin

Im also using Slicehost for my projects. I have the biggest slice possbile with PHP and Ruby configurered on it with Litespeed. I will never go back to Apache and the sluggish mods wink
