Hi,

I’m considering using CI as the framework for a few applications i’m developing and i want to be sure my license won’t interfere with that of CI.

The programs i’m creating will be released as source code that can be modified by anyone, but can not be redistributed with the exception of modules and themes.

Will that sort of license interfere with that of CI?

Hey Mike, welcome to CI.

Off hand I don’t see any conflicts with the license.  Incidentally, that’s just my opinion, not an official statement wink

yea, i’ve seen the license in the docs… I don’t know much about the legal stuff so i want to make sure that the license i want to use won’t conflict with code igniter.  I’ll wait for someone that can give me a more official answer wink

The license isn’t that dense.  Its 6 bullets and a few sentences.  By comparison, the LGPL is over twelve times as big, and much more complex.

What license do you want to use?

I haven’t decided on a specific license, i don’t know most of them… i want one that prohibits redistribution of the original files and/or modified files (with exception of select files), but allows others to modify the program for their own use.

I Am Not A Lawyer, as they say, but it seems clear to me that your application and CI are two separate pieces of software, and may have quite different licenses, even if they are distributed together.

You can restrict redistribution of the portion that is your application, but you may NOT restrict others from redistributing the CI portion.  In your case, I would recommend that your program’s documentation define very clearly which components belong to the application, and which to the framework, and how the licenses differ.

I have any plan, to developing some programs with CI.Is there any license violation if my program release as closed source (obfuscating my code with php encoder) since i won’t my clients change anything in these source codes..???

As far as i know, the CI license is seems like BSD isn’t ??? CMIIW, so there’s many the freedom instead GPL..
