smileys.php and routes.php are mixed up. the smileys.php should be renamed to routes.php and the routes.php should be renamed to smileys.php

You’re wrong. I’ve been using 1.5.2 for some time, and I just downloaded the zip again to double check.

yeah, your right, i just made all of that up. anyway downloaded again with firefox and no problems. perhaps this problem i described above, you know the one i made up, was a result of another problem i was having with an invalid zip file. i probably made the other issue up too. it’s just not feasible that one person could experience a problem while another does not. it’s also not feasible that the problem was intermittent or already fixed, i’m mean come on it’s a computer. we all know this type of thing just doesn’t happen with computers.

Forgive the abruptness of that response, dharmanerd. It’s possible that you did have a faulty download. I know I grabbed 1.5.2 two days after it was released and have not experienced the problem you describe. Mysteries abound!

It’s Vista’s fault. I have no such issues with CI 1.5.2.

coolfactor, I don’t need forgiveness. The “abruptness” you refer to included checking my own copy, downloading a further copy for checking and making my post. I needn’t have bothered doing anything. Announcing that files need renaming without bothering to think it through is just plain wrong. If files need renaming, how come nobody noticed for a year? Don’t patronise me with your forgiveness.

the abruptness was only in this statement “you are wrong”. There’s actually no way you can validate whether or not I experienced the problem. I wouldn’t waste my time posting if i had not experienced this problem. It happened to me, and just because it didn’t happen to you doesn’t make me wrong. And yes, as technology changes and people start using it, there can be bugs. It’s very reasonable to think that the combo of using vista x64 and IE7 could have fried the download. Perhaps this will start happing to others and if it does wouldn’t it be nice for them to read about it and to know they can simply use fire fox to download the files.

at any rate thanks for looking into this and thanks for your feedback.

dharmanerd, I understand and accept your comments. However, your original post wasn’t expressed as a problem or question but as a statement of fact in a bug report. In that context, it can only be wrong. But it’s behind us now, so let’s get on with life.
I like to mention Joeles’ alternate user.guide to relative newcomers here, as more use should be made of it in my opinion. Your input would be welcome. Also, it might be worth having more examples of Vista problems in here for those of us who are too scared to dip a toe in that water. Does it really suck, as several reports suggest?

... sigh. Only Windows users would think something like that “reasonable”.

Not *all* windows users have it crashing every 5 minutes and reformat each weekend.

I, myself, don’t tolerate any strange behaviour.
Anyways that’s off topic raspberry

Why not convert yourself: buy a cheap laptop (~$200), download Ubuntu (most painless first time linux), and install it. In fact, that crappy laptop will probably run better than your multi-Ghz Vista box.

And next time you consider getting a new computer, consider a Mac. When I bought mine, I was comparing Thinkbooks to MacBooks, and the MacBook was actually cheaper. (Thinkbooks are about the closest I could get to a 1:1 comparison, I needed something with extremely high quality, eg: not Dell, Fujitsu, HP, etc.)
