Im not sure if this has been discussed before but im looking to switch from godaddy to a MORE SECURE and reliable web hosting company. I’m looking for a hosting company which mainly focuses on linux+apache+php hosting services. Where do you guys host your CI driven apps?

I’m very happy with A Small Orange.  I used to have several hosting plans with them, and a few months ago I got a Virtual Private Server there.  No problems ever, fast support response.  Prices very reasonable.  They also support PHP5 and SSH access if you need either of those.

thanks linuxbz and Crimp. i’ll have a look at those two. not sure if people here have experience with godaddy. I have one live site hosted on their shared servers. haven’t had a problem but a quite a number of people report problems with their hosting and not to mention their customer service is terrible.

The best site, I think, for hosting advice is the aptly named http://webhostingtalk.com. Search for companies you are interested in to get feeback/reviews. It’s also not uncommon that someone starts a thread with their budget and specs to get suggestions. Generally, the answers are mostly what you expect: you get what you pay for. If secure, fast and stable is what you are looking for, then $5 per month or the like is probably not quite going to meet your expectations. I would, given where you are at now, perhaps have another look at someone like Dreamhost. If you search for the $97 coupon, you can try them out for, what, $20 or so for one year? That’s in any case not an expensive mistake if the hosting does not work out for you.

Does anyone have any experience with DreamHost? If they keep what they promise on the page, they’re unbeatable ...

I have been interested in Dream Host as well - ditto the question from Clemens.

I currently use Host Monster for 1 client - so far so good.

You’ll find that the reviews of DH are very mixed. Obviosuly, you have to ignore the specs for those plans. When they oversell and stuff 1000 domains on a server and offer a trillion GB in storage and bandwidth, you can safely ignore those limits. They are not practical. If you look at the plans at http://enginehosting.com, for example, you see specs that come across as feasible and reasonable - ie actual limits on a server divided by the number of clients on that server. There is no magic beating this math without consequences. One inventive use that some have found for a host like DreamHost is to use them for the parts of a site that require volume in storage and bandwidth, but little cpu. For example, they host their actual site with a more expensive and responsive plan (fast, 100% uptime) and put the file downloads on DreamHost (intermittent content). This set up allows you to buy a lesser but possibly better plan with a different provider, since your storage/bandwidth overhead is offset by the cheap DreamHost hosting.

I’ve been using - CirtexHosting -  I cant complain for now, they have a fast response when we try to get help, they always have someone online for help chat and the prices are what you can see smile if you search for a coupon you can get 50% off, the last coupon that i knew was “forum”, if get for example the basic package, you will pay only $12 for a year.
Most people goes for shared hostings saying 300gb space etc, but why?if you read the TOS you have big limitations and in the day you’ll be using that specs you already won enough money to get an dedicated server. smile just try them CirtexHosting, you can pay for 1month only just for testing.
