Nice design, and cool logo. I agree with the suggestion that the navigation should be more consistent (the tabs on the front page should be present throughout).

Anyone else have a problem with the download page on the wiki? The “download file” link for each file just gives me a blank page.

Hi there, nice work ! This kind of big (huge?) merging couldn’t come with some bugs.

I have a problem with the new forum, in that the old urls I bookmarked for reference no longer work.

I read nowhere that even links in posts were broken, so I post it here.

see http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/47679/P300/
has a link to another page on the same thread
http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/47679/P255/

but 3146 is now 47679…

unable to download the file (does someone have it?).

Thanks a lot.

:/

I seem to have lost my username… That’s all I get when I try to change ci_username to username or maybe I don’t get something:

The form you submitted contained the following errors
  *
Return to Previous Page

I prefer the previous, working version and for the future, I guess it would be nice to notify users before an update like that.

I like the design but i wish the spacing between theads would be less. I visit CI sometimes to look for interesting threads and quickly scan the thread titles to find them, with the big spacing between them now it’s less userfriendly because i have to scroll.

Edit: “changed to default theme” problem solved smile

Just my first-time opinion:

- I miss the old logo. The new one doesn’t seem to have much personality

- Don’t like the reddish header coupled with the blue-greyish forum colors.

- Very nice the homepage overall grid and design

bye, Andrea

Very swish new design although I agree that the logo is lacking the personality of the previous one.

Otherwise, great job. Looks very professional.

My only grumble is that I’ve lost my original screen name in the merge. Bah humbug! :D

<!—Candy comes in a wrapper—>
  <div id=“wrapperWit”>
      <!—Hard candy outer shell—>
        <!—Gooey center—>

some stuff i noticed with the new site:
For those stuck at work using ie6, the transparent png’s look really ugly, especially the search button. The formatting when typing a reply doesn’t seem to work over here, and neither does any of the color, size or theme stuff

also, I can’t seem to change my username back to the my old new:

“The username you chose is not available”

I quite like the redesign and I appreciate all the good work that has gone into it. New logo is good nice too.

What is disappointing however, is the body text which seems to have degraded to a smallish size arial - it lacks character and has poor readability at this size, particularly on hi-res displays which many developers will be using.

There’s nothing wrong with my eyesight or LCD display, but when I scale page text up one size in my browser, the whole site looks considerably better and text is much more readable.

Text legibility should be given far more importance than it currently gets in web design. Text is there to be read, it is not just a visual entity on a page. There is also a difference between text being ‘readable’ and text being ‘easy and comfortable’ to read in quantity.

I would even go so far as to suggest that one contributing factor to CI being rightly praised for its excellent documentation was the fact that it was also a very comfortable read in terms of text size.

The site also needs consistent main navigation - main nav tabs shouldn’t disappear.

Finally, are the RSS feeds broken?

So, good work, but please think about text size.

John,

Here are some examples of the problems with links that used to work from my del.icio.us bookmarks:

http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/47123/: Used to be titled “Code Igniter Forums | Need help structuring a CI application”.  But now points to a different thread that claims to be have been posted on “10 December 2004 03:01 AM”.  I don’t think CI was around at that time.

http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/44916/P90/: Formerly the post entitled “Code Igniter Forums | YATS | Embedding Views within Views”.  Now says “You are not authorized to perform this action”.

http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/46168/: “Code Igniter Forums | can we use controller inside controller?”.  Now says “You are not authorized to perform this action”.

http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/46629/:  “Code Igniter Forums | Search Engine friendly URLs”.  Now says “You are not authorized to perform this action”.

I have a lot more examples if you need.

A minor aesthetic note: in the thread view, there is an excess of vertical padding around each topic, making the page longer than it needs to be. I would cut the padding in half, so topics are closer together and the pages are smaller.
