First of all, I love the new logo. Good work!

...But, the new CI site, although pretty, makes me upset. It just doesn’t have the same minimal, clean look it used to. Same thing for the forums. It looks pretty, but I think you sacrificed functionality for looks, which is never good. Some of the new looks are really well done, some aren’t.

And why do I have to prefix my username with “ci_” in order to log in?

One last thing: What’s this junk at the bottom of the forums? I’m not sure I need to be reminded what icon marks a new post, or be shown a theme selector that has one theme in it.

Overall, I really like the new looks, but… yah.

I like the new homepage allot. For us minimalists: remember that marketing is a big reason why Rails got so big. A nice site will help CI grow.

However, the tabs are USELESS. Tabs need to stick around if they are to be used. They MUST be removed or stretched across the entire site. Or, just remove the parts of the site that don’t use tabs from the tab menu.

Really horrible oversight.

On a less-horrible note the documentation (best of any framework I have ever seen) should probably be updated to match the new site as well.

Other then those complaints the new site is beautifully designed. GREAT JOB!

How did you figure that out? I’d have given up…..

Call me old-fashioned, but if I’m supposed to read it I need it to be legible.

P.S. The formatting buttons don’t work on here.

I see what you did here: it’s the Gates business model. “Release although not ready; the customers will find the bugs for us”.  wink The smiley button works.

I had an old account on pmachine (from 2002!) under my username, which I’m using now.. Derek, are you able to merge the accounts or something like that?

Love the new designs too smile

hey great work the new design. It looks pretty but as others pointed out it doesn’t have the same simplicity to it like the old one. I liked the old layout. The new colors are too bright. I recommend changing the the background of the mian panel from white to something which will go with the current red-orange theme but is not as bright.

Other than that, it looks great. The new logo rocks smile

I like the new design. I agree with shadowhand on the minimalistic approach though. Besides, I somehow miss the former logo. But we must look forward, and evolute. wink

I’ll have to get used to it a bit before I can comment on most of the changes.  One thing that is definitely a step down is the member list.  By merging with EE and pMachine (at least that’s what I guess what has happened) it makes it much harder to locate ourselves and other CI folks.

I did notice that the whole subjects seem to be visible rather than truncated on the first page.  I like that.  And overall it looks pretty.  I also hope it has not sacrificed function for pretty.

edit: merge info removed until I’m certain its working wink

I’m surprised by all the negativity on the new desgin… I love it, although I concede any new UI takes a bit of getting used to.

Good point.  There’s (obviously) a ton to do right now, and of course a few loose ends.  After the dust settles I’I'll see about implementing a filter or something based on volume of posts to 1 forum… but I’m not sure that’ll be possible.
