Why would anyone want to do it intentionally? Long airplane flights, hospital visits, promises to the wife, and other similar episodes are enough for me. You can always catch up on your reading of computer literature to fight off computer withdrawal. The nasty part is catching up on all of your email and forum threads afterwards, especially if your withdrawal period runs into days or weeks. You can always cheat using cell phones and ce devices.

It’s a social expermiment, to test the extent on our reliance on various technologies, and the levels of stress it puts us thorugh.

A few weeks ago, I took the advise of a wise mn and drove a 90 minues journey with the radio turned off. It felt good to have some little time to myself. I actually nodded to the driver next to me at the traffic light. (Of course she thought I was crazed, but I felt good about it.)

I think it’s a fantastic idea.

As a social experiment, it would be interesting to measure the effect on road accidents/rage etc if all radio stations
were to go off-air for a day.

The days come and gone, and I did it. Never switched on my PC or used my cellphone (except to tell the time wink ).

It may not seem like a big deal, but it was.

I got to do things with the family, like watch the Saturday night movie on TV. I was surprised that they had a routine for certain portions of the day that, sort of, excluded me, due to my (normal) abscence.

Change of routine for me!
