Hi everyone! I wanted to give you an update on the state of CI.
First, let me apologize for not being more active around there. Inactivity in these forums, however, doesn’t mean that we’ve lost interest in CI or stopped development. On the contrary. CI is actually a central part of our 2007 goals. In fact, CI is going to be developed formally by our team now, instead of being my personal hobby project. That transition is already taking place, and as soon as next month some exciting things will begin emerging as a result, and continuing throughout the year.
By the way, one of our goals this year is to enable developers to become more successful on the web. So beyond our CI development goals, you’ll see some resources put into place that help connect clients with developers.
Over the past year (wow, it’s been nearly a year!) CI has found a significant user base, and a fantastic one too. I’m continually impressed with the quality of people that participate in these forums. Given its growth, I think we’re at a point where it makes sense to assemble an advisory board, and perhaps even allow some third-party developers to contribute formally. Candidly, the project has grown too big for me alone, so I’m ready to welcome participation from others. I’ll post more about this very soon…
I want to also formally announce that we’ve hired Derek Allard to join our team. Personally, I’m very excited about this. He brings a lot of talents with him, not the least of which is his expertise with CI. But most of all, he has an infectious enthusiasm. Initially he’ll be leading our tech support team, but very soon we hope to expand his role into development and various other areas.
Next, we finally have a Subversion repository in place. I’m sorry it took us so long, but our server admin has been working insane hours over the past few months as part of our hosting expansion. We’ve been putting a lot of new hardware in place in order to keep up with the growth. Unfortunately, our development box kept getting shoved aside. I should be able to publicly post the URL within the next couple days.
Again, let me apologize for being so absent around here. Six years ago I was a freelance web developer. Today I run a company with 11 people, so the demands on my time are pretty intense. I’m VERY excited about all our CI goals, though, and look forward to seeing them unfold this year.
Lastly, I want to also thank every one of our users. I appreciate your support very much, and I hope CI can help you meet your goals on the web!
