Is there a class in CI for user authentication?  The one thing I despise about building a CMS is getting the user authentication working correctly.  I found this on the Wiki: http://www.codeigniter.com/wiki/auth/, but I’m not sure if there is anything else.  Thanks

There is no built-in user authentication system with CI.

Though, there are some community releases regarding this subject (some out of date, you can still get them to work nonetheless):
