OK… all this talk of fire and burning… I started playing.
And then I started thinking about the words ignite, spark, fire. That led to the idea of a controlled fire, or a created fire, which (I’m not entirely sure) got me thinking along the lines of a test tube with a fire coming out of it.
I certainly don’t want to curb anybody’s enthusiasm, but the original suggestion was for a horizontal “tagline” for use as a link in a footer. Hence (e.g.) “Set alight by CodeIgniter”, with something graphic for the “CodeIgniter” part.
As has been said already, Rick’s current graphic and font don’t scale down for that kind of purpose, so I guess we need Rick to supply his opinions on radical change.
I don’t see why there couldn’t be a variety of graphics (an perhaps even more than one slogan) so people could choose.
Sure. But I think the primary need is for some “links” graphics; and we’ve reached the point where we need Rick’s opinions, unless we’re all going to be “graphics forkers” with our own preferred graphic stuck on “our” version.
Ha! When I saw “graphics forkers” I thought of the BSD logo
Since the purpose is merely a link to the CI site, I would think whatever the user wants should be OK, within reason. I reject anyone’s claim that you have to have the permission of a website to link to it. I suppose Rick COULD say you can’t use the CI logo without his permission, but that wouldn’t win many friends, would it?
So unless Rick has some strong feelings about it, I’d say we should go ahead and develop several alternatives. It wouldn’t hurt for him to weigh in with his thoughts and/or preferences, of course. I do like the “plugged in Indian Chief” logo (just to add a little politically incorrect humor)

I haven’t meant to imply that we need Rick’s permission to link to CI. I’m just saying that some “officially accepted” taglines and graphics would be useful. I can’t imagine what purpose dallard’s larger graphics would serve unless CI itself is getting a makeover. No criticism implied, dallard - you’re actually doing stuff while I merely talk….
linuxbz, you mean “native American of seniority”, not “Indian chief”. You just don’t understand the modern world, do you….?
Hey guys, no critique or offense taken! We’re just throwing ideas around here. That said, the purpose of any larger images are just to get discussion going - I’m just building as I think of it. These are just rough (rough… rough… very rough) ideas to get us doing exactly what we are doing now. Discussing how to make CI better. You keep throwing ideas out and I’ll keep building. In a perfect world Rick could stumble into this thread and say “that idea is perfect, just change x and y”... and who knows, we might hit that?
In the meantime, this is part of the community that makes CI so great
Martin… you aren’t using (I shutter to say this) IE are you? It only shows favicons when you bookmark a page (or add it to favourites, or whatever the h-e-double hockey sticks MS is calling it today).

I’m ashamed to admit it; but yes, I was using IE. I use it mostly for viewing my current development version, but sometimes I forget to switch to Firefox and - (sob) - oh, the shame….
Anyway. I “bookmarked” - or whatever - CI, and only got the browser icon in my Favourites list. Who do I sue?
