Not really a request, more a question:

Are you EllisLab guys looking at implementation of Modules/HMVC in a future release of CI, or is this something that’s not in the CI masterplan? I know, we can use Modular Extensions or Matchbox, but I was just wondering if it’s something you’re planning as a structural part of CI itself.

I would like to know too whether they have used some of these techniques for the EE 2.0 rewrite.

Maybe Derek can throw some light on this?

Thanks.

I don’t think they check the boards on the weekends, and besides, they’re all pretty busy getting EE 2 ready.

Did you read the post? Something tells me you didn’t.

I was just appending the wiki link to your question for those that are new to this type of architecture.

Then be clear about it by saying so and not by just slapping on an unargumented link.

I guess we have to wait to see what they have done with CI to build EE on.

Looking at EE now, the only place where modules would help the structure is to separate the admin panel.  There are other ways to achieve that though.

We’ll just have to wait.

The whole “modules” thing never really appealed to me. I guess I just like having all my models in one place, controllers in one place, views in one place, etc, and not all y-models in one place, x-models in another, and so on…

Do you use sub-directories Colin? If you do then you clearly see a need for organizational structure in your applications too.

I do use sub-directories for Views (each Controller gets a directory in Views, and sometimes I break up Views into “themes” at an even higher level), and I would consider it for Controllers if a single controller was too big for its own good and needed to be broken up (usually the ‘Admin’ controller)
